Getting Started

As of this past Saturday the first Raoky Road to Dublin Join Meet is confirmed for the weekend of 8th/9th September, 2007. In Dublin, obviously.

Meet your Raoky Road to Dublin organisers:

  • Del—Agent Monkey Honey Poppet Joinee The Del-star (Gatesy Approved)

  • Rory—Colonal Predictable Fudge-a-licious Threadjack Joinee Spaca-Rory

  • Linda—Joinee Hippy-Chick

We met on Saturday to bash out some plans about the meet. Del and I had a bit of a stroll about the south side of the city with an eye to figuring out the best locations for the RAoK walk (or possibly a RAoK challenge). We figure the best places are Temple Bar, Trinity College, St. Stephen's Green, and Grafton St., all conveniently rather close to each other. These are all areas where we're more likely to find the type of person who won't be freaked out by our less than usual behaviour, Temple Bar especially. Other parts of Dublin might be a bit less inclined to accept a bunch of eccentric foreigners being unnecessarily nice to them.

Then the three of us retired to Messrs. McGuire, a great pub on the south side of O'Connell bridge. This is an ideal location for our Official Pub of the Raoky Road. It has several stories (i.e., floors, not tales—though it may well have a few more of those by the time the meet is over) and is full of neat alcoves and whatnot so that a group of basically any size can get a section all to itself. They also do food. There's no charge to book part of the pub so long as we buy enough drinks, which will not be an issue.

We sketched out a few ideas about the meet from the comfort of our alcove. We have a few ideas about what to do in the pub, as well as activities we might like to partake of during the day around Dublin city. I'll post details as they're confirmed, or if I get too excitable to keep things to myself any longer.
